Upcoming Speedskating Training
Opportunities Hello Everyone- I just want to share with you some upcoming training opportunities, clinics and camps for those who may be interested if you have not heard already: There will be a Level I and 2 Coaching Course offered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 15-17, 2008. Registration information can be obtained from the US Speedskating (USS) website (www.usspeedskating.org ---scroll to the Competition Calendar to download the form). As a reminder, effective the 2009-2010 season, all coaches that want to be in the coaching box at any National Championship, must be a certified Level 2 Coach. The next USS & OSA Development Camp will be held on August 22-24, 2008, again at the Cleveland Heights Recreation Center. This year, three-time Olympian Caroline Hallisey-Kepka will join us for the weekend sharing with us speedskating dryland and on ice techniques to help those in attendance become better short-track speedskaters. Watch the OSA and US Speedskating website for more information as it becomes available. Have you ever thought about becoming an Official? If so, there will be two Officials Seminars this year. On the USS Competition Calendar, there is a course listed in Richmond, Virginia on August 8 & 9, 2008 (with some information already posted) and one in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 5-6, 2008 (see attachment). Please watch the US Speedskating website for further information (again look under the Competition Event Calendar). In Pittsburgh, if there is enough interest, the clinic will be held for those interested in becoming a referee, starter and competitor steward (with some discussion on Timing and Lap Counting, but these will not have separate clinic sections). Those interested in judging should contact Fred Benjamin at BENSHAPLAW@aol.com and let him know of your interest. Generally there is not enough interest in judging at these clinics so USS does not bring in a Level 3 judge to help with the clinic. If there is enough interest---perhaps they will. Ohio is in need of more people interested in becoming an official----please give this worthwhile opportunity some thought. The Rochester International Meet will be the weekend of October 18 and 19, 2008. For those interested in becoming a photo finish official, the Rochester Club is trying to get a training session going with photo finish equipment this weekend. Those interested in learning should plan on arriving on Friday, October 17th, to help set up. In order to make sure that there will be enough interest to warrant having this clinic, please let me know ASAP, so I can forward your name(s) to Rochester. Finally, on November 1-2, 2008, the American Cup II/Ohio Invitational Meet will be held at the Cleveland Heights Recreation Center. Help will be needed----please mark your calendars. More information will be available in the months ahead. Tom Frank President |
