For a quick, convenient ride to and from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport try using RTA's Red Line. It's simple to catch the Red Line train and it takes less than 30 minutes to ride to or from Downtown Cleveland’s Tower City Station.

RTA's Airport station is located on the lower level of the terminal complex. To reach the rapid transit line just take the elevators or escalators near the center of the ticketing and baggage claim levels.

RTA's regularly scheduled service also makes this the most convenient and least expensive way to travel. From Monday through Saturday the Red Line operates every 15 minutes from 3:39 a.m. until 1:01 a.m. On Sunday, the rapid operates from 4:32 a.m. until 12:24 a.m. Riding the rapid only costs $1.75 each way. We suggest you purchase a 5-Ride Farecard, or one of our 7-day or monthly passes as appropriate. They have transfer capabilities built in and you determine when you want to ride. You can also purchase a $3.50 All-Day pass at any fare box.

RTA's Red Line was the first rapid transit service to an International Airport in North America. On Friday, November 15, 1968, direct rapid transit service began from downtown to the Cleveland airport. In addition to serving air travelers, the new extension brought rapid transit facilities closer to southwest suburban commuters.

• All Senior/Disabled cash fares, farecards and passes require passenger to show valid RTA Senior ID, RTA Disabled ID or Medicare card.

How-to-Ride: Getting Started

 

The following will explain to you every facet of riding RTA. So kick back and enjoy, much like you would do on one of your buses or rapid trains, and welcome to RTA.

There are 3 easy ways to get started.

1. Click here to use the RTA Trip Planner
   • Enter the origin and destination of your trip.
   • Click on “Get Trip Plan” and Trip Planner will provide several trip options.
   • Choose the trip option that best suits your needs and click on “Details.”
   • Print out your selected trip itinerary.
   • Don’t be late; it’s best to get to the transit stop at least 5 minutes early.
     
      
2. Get a copy of a system map, and do the following:
   • Locate the route number closest to your starting point.
   • Locate the route number closest to your destination.
   • Look at a timetable/schedule specific to the route number(s) you need.
   • If the starting and destination route numbers are different, you will need to transfer. Two and one-half hour transfer privileges are built into all multi-ride farecards, and time-based (7-day, monthly) farecards allow for unlimited usage during the time period. If you are paying cash, you will have to pay full fare on each bus or train you ride.
   • Using the timetable/schedule, figure out what time the bus/rapid will reach your starting point.
   • Don't be late; it's best to get to the transit stop at least 5 minutes early.
     
      
3. Call the RTAnswerline, which is 216-621-9500, and an RTA representative can answer any questions you may have. Be prepared to provide them with the address of your current location and the address of your destination.

 

Some additional advice before leaving your home:

• Until you get familiar with riding RTA, carry timetables/schedules with you. They are available online or at an RTA Customer Service Center.
• The final destination for the bus/rapid will be listed on the front of the bus/rapid.
• If you're unsure about something, you can always ask the driver.
• Dress for the weather.
• Remember the RTAnswerline number - 216-621-9500. This line is available Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
